I liked bullet 6, as it gives you more visibility for top of the funnel searchers. One thing you didnt put on this list which I find people always forget is linking your Places and Merchant feed to get local searchers. Thanks for the holiday reminders, cheers.

Linking the accounts is a great idea for local brick and mortar retail locations.
It may not be a bad idea to try killing two birds with one stone by combining #7 and #8. When youre asking for email opt-in permission, why not ask for text message permission as well?

Remarketing campaigns are also a great way to increae brand awareness and improve credibility during the holidays. Thanks for the list
I agree. When do you think the optimal time to run the ads is?
Any guesses as to why this has 7 thumbs down but no negative comments? Seemed fine to me, but know I dont know if Im missing something
All useful ideas for enhancing your ecommerce website albeit most should be considered all year round rather than in the run-up to holiday seasons.
Check out our 105 Killer Ecommerce Tips for Online Retailers too. Whilst its a little dated now (April 2010), many of the tips still apply and should be paramount to running a successful ecommerce store. We are also planning an updated list which we hope to publish within the next month.
Thanks for sharing your link! You are right many of these tips apply year round, but we find many e-tailers miss opportunities right around the holidays and wanted to encourage them to tighten up their site in time to maximize revenue. This post was based off of our webinar and guide with 107 tips for holiday e-commerce promotion. http://www.fathomdelivers.com/e-commerce-webinar/ - If anyone wants to email me directly for the PDF version we would be glad to send it to you. kkrejny@fathomdelivers.com

You too, are right. Many (infact most) etailers miss the mass of opportunities in the build up to Christmas to increase their AOV and upsell/cross sell.
I think offering the "holiday special" shipping options is a great idea. I think Amazon does something like that, "Buy by X and guarateed delivery before Christmas." It might be a good incentive that encourages somone to make the purchase.

My 86-year-old dad still sends a check, even when he uses the old doorstop I gave him to use as a computer. There are people who still like the old ways, so give them what they want. Hey, it cant hurt.
No problem :D They used to (still do, I think), state the value of the box and who it was intended for (boy/girl/man/woman), then sell the total contents at a much lower price.

I really like mobi sites as well. A few of the e-commerce platforms (3Dcart and Big Commerce) have this already built in.
Thanks for alerting us for the holiday season. All the point are very important to implement to pick maximum revenue.Personally I liked 8 point the most as asking for a newsletter really helps while doing emial marketing. As a perfect strategy is not limited to festival or holidays it is actually creating possibilities from opportunities.

What about wishlists that customers can use to send to their friends and family? Or is that something from the past?
I think wishlists can be a valuable tool on the right sites, but dont have any supporting case studies. Im curious if anyone out there has tracked conversions tied to wishlist items and had success?

Planning early for the holidays is key to staying ahead of the competition and not struggling to play catch up. If nothing else its important for work/life balance. I personally dont to be spending long evenings at the office during the holiday season.
On that note, another strategy to consider for the holiday season would be to generate reviews that have holiday refences in them. Reviews that speak to how a gift made someone feel on Christmas can really resonate with humanistic customers during the holidays. Tis the season to be jolly:)
Chris, I like that idea of holiday focused reviews! Nudging people in the right direction immediately after order confirmation can be pretty powerful for generating reviews. From your experience would you encourage people to leave a review on the site tied to the product, on another site listing, or both?

I think combining numbers 3 and 4 is the best strategy... Offer incentives for people to buy giftcards for others.
I second the SSL verification. I just recently ranked for a new keyword and noticed my conversion rate dropped dramatically. I chalked it up to a less qualified keyword for buyers. However, when I went through my bi-weekly random browsing session, I found the SSL encyrpytion isnt operating correctly. Now I have a new reason to think the conversion rate is down.
This is a great list of marketing and IT tips for e-retailers to use! One tip I feel that gets overlooked is to take a more multi-cultural approach to specific holiday sales (http://www.pfsweb.com/blog/7-holiday-tips-for-ecommerce-sites/) to connect on a deeper level with customers. Nothing quite like promoting "Christmas deals" when there are many visitors to your site who have different holiday beliefs.
Another tip which Ive seen around quite a bit is to provide incentives for reaching specific order values (i.e. save $20 when you order $100 or more). This can really help not only to build brand loyalty (buying more from your site and less from competitors) but also if youre a retailer it means more products with your name are given out around Christmas time :)
especially the concept of countdown box was impressive, it makes the visitors to be more alert regarding the holiday season and additionally it shows the devotion of the site towards the holiday season.
Most importantly the visitors like Me or may be everybody looks for the SSL certificate while making any kind of transaction , so I salute you for letting people know about the SSL certificates update status.
In the Asian countries like India, Use of mobile phones is much more compared to the desktop usage and Notebook usage, even I do the mobile browsing through my Tab, while traveling . Hence the Site should be made in such a way that it can be rendered even on a small browsers like Opera Mini.
I like this blog as this provide an alert message about what to avoid in ecommerce thanks
